Have all of the information before you book your Boudoir session

HOUSE OF VENUS BOUDOIR

Everything You Need to Know Before Your Session

Boudoir can feel a little intimidating—especially if you’ve never done anything like this before. That’s completely normal.

At House of Venus Boudoir, you do not need modeling experience, a certain body type, a closet full of lingerie, or any idea what to do in front of the camera. That’s my job.

I’ve been photographing boudoir since 2009, and your entire session is guided from beginning to end—from wardrobe and posing to expression, lighting, and image selection.

Here’s everything you need to know.

DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO POSE?

Absolutely not.

Most of my clients have never modeled or done a boudoir session before.

I will guide you through every pose from head to toe, including where to put your hands, how to position your legs, where to look, how to breathe, and even your facial expressions.

You are never expected to walk in knowing what to do.

DO I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT BEFORE MY SESSION?

No.

Boudoir is not something you have to earn by reaching a certain weight, size, age, or fitness level.

Professional posing, lighting, camera angles, wardrobe choices, and direction make an enormous difference in how your body photographs. My job is to photograph the body you have right now beautifully.

Please don't put off your session waiting for some future version of yourself.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Whatever makes you feel good.

That might be lingerie, a bodysuit, oversized sweater, button-down shirt, bridal pieces, stockings, a favorite bra and panty set, a partner's shirt, jersey, heels—or absolutely nothing at all.

Once you're booked, I'll help you decide what will photograph best.

Fit matters much more than the number on the tag, so don't get hung up on sizing.

DO YOU HAVE A CLIENT CLOSET?

Yes. House of Venus has wardrobe options available in a variety of styles and sizes.

Availability varies, so I still recommend bringing a few pieces of your own whenever possible.

We can mix your wardrobe with available studio pieces to create different looks throughout your session.

HOW MANY OUTFITS SHOULD I BRING?

Bring several options.

Depending on the session you've booked, we'll narrow those down to the strongest looks before we begin.

It's much better to bring too much and let me help you choose than to wish you'd brought something once you're already here.

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO WEAR LINGERIE?

You don't have to.

Some of my favorite boudoir images aren't traditional lingerie photographs at all.

A bodysuit, tank top, sweater, sheet, robe, button-down shirt, jeans, bridal veil, or strategically covered nude image can be just as sexy.

Your session is built around your comfort level and your personality.

DO I HAVE TO GET NAKED?

Absolutely not.

Your level of coverage is completely your decision.

You can be fully covered, wear lingerie, do implied nude photographs, topless images, or nude images if that is something you want.

You will never be pressured to do anything you're uncomfortable with.

And you can change your mind at any point during the session.

CAN I BRING PROPS?

Yes, within reason.

Personal items can make your session feel much more like you. Bridal accessories, jewelry, heels, stockings, hats, jackets, jerseys, partner's clothing, or meaningful items can all work beautifully.

If you're considering something unusual or oversized, just ask beforehand.

WHAT ABOUT HAIR AND MAKEUP?

Hair and makeup availability depends on the session or promotion you've booked.

If professional hair and makeup is included in your package, that will be clearly stated in your booking information.

If it is not included, you're welcome to have it professionally done beforehand or do your own.

For makeup, I generally recommend slightly more definition than your everyday look because studio lighting can soften makeup on camera.

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR MY SESSION?

Keep it simple.

Hydrate, get some rest, moisturize, and avoid experimenting with brand-new beauty treatments immediately before your session.

If you shave or wax, do it early enough that any redness or irritation has time to settle.

Avoid tight socks, bras, underwear, or clothing immediately before your session if they leave noticeable marks on your skin.

Most importantly: eat.

Please don't starve yourself the day of your shoot. Boudoir posing is surprisingly physical and you'll need energy.

SHOULD I TAN BEFORE MY SESSION?

You don't need to.

If you regularly spray tan, schedule it far enough in advance for the color to settle naturally.

I strongly recommend avoiding last-minute spray tans or unfamiliar self-tanning products. Uneven color, orange tones, streaks, stained hands, and patchiness are much harder to correct than natural skin.

WHAT ABOUT NAILS?

They don't have to be professionally done.

Clean, neat nails are perfectly fine. If you're wearing polish, make sure it isn't badly chipped.

Neutral shades, classic red, black, French manicures, and simple colors generally photograph beautifully.

Don't forget your toes if they'll be visible.

I HAVE STRETCH MARKS, CELLULITE, SCARS OR LOOSE SKIN. IS THAT A PROBLEM?

No.

Real bodies have texture, scars, lines, folds, cellulite, stretch marks, and asymmetry.

Professional posing and lighting are used to flatter you before I ever touch an image in editing.

Retouching is there to polish the photograph—not turn you into a completely different human being.

HOW MUCH DO YOU EDIT?

Every purchased image receives professional editing.

This includes things such as color correction, exposure, skin polishing, distracting temporary blemishes, and the finishing work consistent with the House of Venus style.

There are no surprise editing charges for standard professional retouching.

My goal is for you to look like the best photographed version of yourself—not an AI-generated stranger.

Permanent features such as scars, tattoos, birthmarks, freckles, stretch marks, or other identifying characteristics are generally not removed unless requested and appropriate.

WILL YOU CHANGE MY BODY IN PHOTOSHOP?

My first tools are posing and lighting, not Photoshop.

I don't build completely different bodies in editing.

The goal is to photograph you beautifully in camera and then professionally polish the final image.

If there is something specific you're concerned about, tell me before your session. Chances are I've heard it before, and I can pose and light with that concern in mind.

HOW LONG IS THE SESSION?

Session length depends on the experience or promotion you've booked.

Your booking confirmation will specify the amount of shooting time included.

Please arrive on time. Arriving late may reduce your available shooting time because sessions are scheduled around other appointments and commitments.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

We don't immediately throw you in front of the camera.

We'll go through your wardrobe, talk about what you love, discuss anything you're nervous about, and decide which looks will photograph best.

Then I take over.

I will direct the session from beginning to end.

You don't have to perform for me. You simply follow my directions.

WHAT IF I'M REALLY NERVOUS?

You probably will be at first.

That's normal.

Most clients are nervous when they arrive and then realize very quickly that the experience is nothing like standing awkwardly in front of a camera wondering what to do.

You're being professionally directed the entire time.

You don't need confidence before you walk through the door.

CAN I DRINK BEFORE MY SESSION TO CALM MY NERVES?

Please don't arrive intoxicated.

A small celebratory drink where permitted is one thing, but you must be able to safely participate, understand direction, maintain balance during posing, and give clear consent throughout your session.

If you arrive visibly impaired, the session may need to be stopped or rescheduled.

CAN I BRING SOMEONE WITH ME?

Please check your specific booking information before bringing a guest.

Boudoir sessions generally work best with minimal distractions, and studio/location rules may limit additional guests.

If you'd like someone to accompany you, ask before your session so we can make sure it's appropriate for the location.

WHO WILL PHOTOGRAPH ME?

Your photographer is Kimberly of House of Venus Boudoir.

You won't arrive expecting one photographer and suddenly be handed off to someone you've never met.

I've been photographing boudoir since 2009 and specialize in posing, lighting, expression, and creating flattering images of everyday people—not professional models.

WHERE ARE SESSIONS HELD?

House of Venus Boudoir is based in New Orleans and also photographs frequently in Cincinnati, along with select travel locations.

Exact locations can vary depending on the session, promotion, travel schedule, or experience booked.

Your confirmed session details will include the location information you need.

DO YOU TRAVEL?

Yes.

Travel sessions and select destination dates may be available.

If you'd like House of Venus to come to your city, reach out with your location and desired timeframe.

WHEN DO I SEE MY PHOTOS?

After your session, your images are professionally prepared for your private online video reveal.

During your reveal, I'll walk you through your photographs and help you narrow them down so choosing doesn't feel overwhelming.

You are not left staring at hundreds of images trying to figure everything out yourself.

ARE DIGITAL IMAGES INCLUDED WITH MY SESSION?

Only if your specific offer, collection, Groupon, promotion, or package explicitly states that digital images are included.

This is important:

A session fee and an image/artwork collection are not necessarily the same thing.

Your session fee reserves the photography experience and whatever is specifically listed in your booking offer.

Additional digital images, albums, prints, wall art, or other artwork are purchased separately unless your offer specifically says otherwise.

There are no hidden surprises—the inclusions for your particular session will be clearly stated before booking.

DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE EVERY IMAGE?

No.

You'll choose the photographs you love during your reveal and purchase according to the collection or artwork options available to you.

There is never an expectation that you must purchase every photograph created during your session.

WHAT PRODUCTS ARE AVAILABLE?

Depending on your session and current product offerings, options may include:

Digital image collections, luxury albums, prints, wall art, and other specialty artwork.

Current pricing and available collections will be provided so you can decide what works best for you.

DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?

Yes.

Available payment options may include Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm, and PayPal, subject to each provider's individual approval and terms.

This can allow you to break your purchase into payments rather than paying the entire balance at once.

Availability may vary based on purchase amount and provider eligibility.

IS MY SESSION FEE REFUNDABLE?

Session fees and retainers reserve time specifically for you and are generally non-refundable.

Promotional offers, vouchers, third-party deals, and special events may have their own terms.

Please review the cancellation and rescheduling policy attached to your specific booking before paying.

WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE?

Life happens.

Contact House of Venus as soon as possible if you need to move your appointment.

Rescheduling is subject to availability and the terms of your booking agreement. Last-minute cancellations, repeated rescheduling, or no-shows may result in loss of the session fee/retainer or require a new booking fee.

WHAT IF I'M SICK?

Please reach out.

I'd much rather discuss rescheduling than have you miserable during your photographs or expose others to illness.

The sooner you communicate, the easier it is to find a solution.

WHAT IF I START MY PERIOD?

You usually don't need to cancel.

If you're comfortable using your normal menstrual products, we can typically photograph around it without an issue.

If you're experiencing significant pain, bloating, illness, or simply don't feel comfortable being photographed, contact me and we'll discuss your options.

WHAT IF I HAVE A BREAKOUT OR BRUISE?

Don't panic.

Temporary blemishes and minor bruising can generally be handled during normal professional retouching.

Please don't aggressively pick at your skin or try a drastic treatment the night before your session.

CAN I DO BRIDAL BOUDOIR?

Absolutely.

Bridal boudoir can be photographed as a gift for your partner or simply as something for yourself.

Bring your veil, wedding shoes, jewelry, garter, lingerie, robe, invitation details, or anything else connected to your wedding.

If you're creating an album for a wedding or anniversary, book early enough to allow time for editing, ordering, production, and delivery.

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH COUPLES?

Select couples boudoir and intimate portrait experiences may be available.

Because couples sessions can vary greatly in style and comfort level, contact House of Venus directly for current availability and details.

WILL MY PHOTOS BE POSTED ONLINE?

Not without permission.

Your privacy matters.

A boudoir session does not automatically mean your photographs become social media content.

Any images used publicly by House of Venus are subject to the permissions contained in the applicable model release or image-use agreement.

If privacy is extremely important to you because of your career, family, relationship, or personal circumstances, tell me. There is absolutely no shame in wanting your photographs to remain private.

WHO SEES MY IMAGES?

Your photographs are handled as private client imagery.

They are not casually shared, and your reveal is private.

Any third-party professional service involved in producing or delivering your purchased artwork may necessarily process the files required to fulfill that order, but your images are not sold or released for unrelated use without authorization.

CAN I KEEP MY FACE OUT OF THE PHOTOS?

Yes.

We can create anonymous or discreet boudoir images using composition, cropping, posing, shadows, details, and angles that don't clearly show your face.

This can be especially helpful for clients who want beautiful photographs while maintaining additional privacy.

CAN I POST MY OWN PHOTOS?

Purchased digital images are yours to enjoy and share for personal use according to your client agreement.

I always appreciate credit when you share, but please don't add heavy filters, alter the editing, screenshot proofs, remove watermarks from proofs, or otherwise modify unfinished images.

Copyright remains with the photographer unless otherwise stated in writing.

CAN I HAVE THE RAW OR UNEDITED IMAGES?

No.

RAW files, unedited photographs, test images, duplicates, missed expressions, lighting tests, and other unfinished work are not delivered.

The final images represent the finished House of Venus Boudoir product.

HOW LONG ARE MY PHOTOS KEPT?

Gallery availability and archival periods can vary.

Once your final purchased images are delivered, download them promptly and back them up in more than one location.

House of Venus cannot guarantee permanent storage of client galleries or files indefinitely.

CAN I USE MY SESSION AS A GIFT?

Absolutely.

Boudoir photographs make incredible wedding, anniversary, birthday, Valentine's Day, deployment, or "just because" gifts.

But you don't need a partner or an occasion to justify booking one.

You can be the reason.

WHAT AGE DO I HAVE TO BE?

All boudoir clients must be 18 years of age or older.

Valid identification may be required.

No exceptions.

IS BOUDOIR ONLY FOR WOMEN?

House of Venus specializes in boudoir experiences and each inquiry is considered based on the type of session requested, current offerings, location, and photographer availability.

Reach out directly if you're unsure whether your desired session is currently offered.

I'M OLDER. AM I TOO OLD FOR BOUDOIR?

No.

There is no expiration date on being photographed beautifully.

House of Venus photographs adults at many different stages of life.

Age is not something that disqualifies you from boudoir.

I'M PLUS SIZE. WILL YOU KNOW HOW TO POSE ME?

Yes.

Boudoir photography requires understanding bodies—not expecting every client to have the same one.

Posing is adjusted for you, your proportions, your mobility, your wardrobe, your comfort level, and what you want to emphasize.

There is no "boudoir body."

I HAVE MOBILITY LIMITATIONS OR PHYSICAL CONCERNS. CAN I STILL BOOK?

Please tell me before your session.

Boudoir posing can be surprisingly physical, but poses can often be modified.

If you have difficulty kneeling, arching, standing for extended periods, getting on or off the floor, or maintaining certain positions, I need to know so I can plan accordingly.

Never push through pain for a photograph.

WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE MY PHOTOS?

My goal is to prevent that problem before the shutter is ever clicked.

That's why I professionally direct your posing, lighting, angles, hands, expression, and body positioning throughout the session.

Your reveal also allows you to select the photographs you love rather than having someone else decide which images you should purchase.

WHAT IF I DON'T KNOW WHAT "SEXY" LOOKS LIKE FOR ME?

Perfect.

You don't have to.

Sexy doesn't have one uniform.

It can be soft, romantic, dark, playful, powerful, glamorous, bridal, edgy, sensual, elegant, anonymous, or completely stripped down.

We create a session that looks like you, not a copy of someone else's Pinterest board.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK?

As early as possible if you need your photographs by a particular date.

If you're planning a wedding, anniversary, birthday, holiday, or other gift, remember that your session is only the first step. Your reveal, image selection, editing, product production, and shipping may all require additional time.

Last-minute openings sometimes happen, but they cannot be guaranteed.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BOOK?

Choose your available session date or current offer and complete the required booking steps.

Your appointment is not considered secured until the required session fee/retainer and booking requirements have been completed.

Once you're officially booked, you'll receive the information you need to prepare.

ONE LAST THING...

You do not need to arrive fearless.

You don't need to know how to pose.

You don't need to lose 20 pounds.

You don't need perfect skin.

You don't need expensive lingerie.

And you definitely don't need to look like anyone you've seen on Instagram.

You just need to show up.

I'll handle the posing, lighting, direction, and photography.

You've spent enough of your life finding reasons to stay out of photographs.

Maybe it's time to finally have some you can't stop looking at.
